Notes: Elizabeth explains: I am calling this cookery book Hotch Potch because it is a collection of family recipes and recipes given to me for food I have enjoyed when visiting friends. The name is taken from a very popular soup in Scotland. The story goes that when Prince Albert was shooting on the moors one day, he came across a ghillie drinking soup out of a flask and he asked him what he was drinking. The ghillie replied hotch potch.
But what is hotch potch? asked the Prince.
There痴 beans int段lt, cabbage int段lt, carrots int段lt.
But what is int段lt? asked the Prince.
There痴 cauliflower int段lt, there痴 celery int段lt and neeps int段lt.
The dialogue continued until someone passing informed the Prince that int段lt meant into it.
So, as this book contains all kinds of recipes, it qualified for the name of Hotch Potch.
